SCOTT CITY -- "Rise & Shine," a wake-up service, will start operations here next week.

"This service is for a number of people," said William Brock, who will operate the business with his wife, Barbara Brock. "We'll cover a wide area, including Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Chaffee and Scott City."

In addition to wake-up calls, the service will include calls to check on individuals' well being.

"Many parents want calls made to `latch-key' children who may be at home alone after school," said Brock. "Others have expressed a desire for us to call and check on elderly parents."

The Brocks will operate the business out of their home.

Mrs. Brock also conducts a pet-grooming business.

"The primary hours will be early morning and mid-to-late afternoon," he said. "But, we'll be available most of the day."

Brock said wake-up services are popular in metropolitan areas and that "we wanted to bring the service to this area."
