"Rollin' Down the River" is the theme for this year's American Cancer Society Gala. The dinner dance will be held at the A.C. Brase Arena Building Feb. 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Guests will be greeted by Jesse Padgett playing banjo. The evening includes cocktail-style dining, featuring bite-sized foods catered by Port Cape from 7-10 p.m., a cash bar, dance music by ELS from New Orleans, games, auctions and a cash raffle drawing...

"Rollin' Down the River" is the theme for this year's American Cancer Society Gala.

The dinner dance will be held at the A.C. Brase Arena Building Feb. 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Guests will be greeted by Jesse Padgett playing banjo. The evening includes cocktail-style dining, featuring bite-sized foods catered by Port Cape from 7-10 p.m., a cash bar, dance music by ELS from New Orleans, games, auctions and a cash raffle drawing.

Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Tygett are this year's raffle chairmen. The raffle this year is a 50-50 chance and will have five winners. The first place winner will receive no less than $5,000. The second place winner will receive a minimum of $2,000; and three third place winners will receive $1,000 each.

Each raffle ticket costs $100. Half that amount goes to the American Cancer Society. The other half goes toward the raffle prizes.

Cathy Schmidt is chairman for the dinner dance. J. Fred Waltz is chairman of an addition to gala activities, games, which begin at 7 p.m.

Kim Swartz is chairman of the auctions, both live and silent. Items for the auctions are being donated by sports and entertainment personalities and from local businesses and individuals.

Andy and Jeanette Juden are chairmen of the gala event. Other committee chairmen are special adviser, Don Dennington; sponsors, Bekki Cook; publicity/band, Leland Shivelbine; secretary/treasurer, Bill Boswell; reservations, Susan Sheets; invitations, Cherie Herbst; decorations, Robin Tolbert; food, Kristy Mehner; tables, Tammy Bohnert; hosts, Susan Stanfield, Tracy Feuerhahn, and Staci Johnson.
