In individual competition, Paw students earned nine state awards this year from the MIPA. Students receiving the individual honors are Katie Shepard, first place, news story; Rachel Stanley, first place, feature story; Travis Kaufman, second place, sports column; Jonathan Anderson, third place, sports feature; Anjuli Dahiya, third place, regular column; Brandon Ruth, honorable mention, editorial; and Annise Maguire, honorable mention, academic photography coverage.

In Quill and Scroll's national competition only 35 Gold Keys were presented for top stories and photographs around the nation this spring. Entries may be submitted from February through February each year.

Gold Key award winners for the Quill and Scroll competition are Jonathan Anderson for sports story, Paul Dobbins from last year's Paw staff for news story, Ben Roeger for general column, and Rachel Stanley for feature story.

The Quill and Scroll judges also select one entry in every photo or story division to receive a Sweepstakes award. The Paw Staff earned one national Sweepstake award this year. The winner was Rachel Stanley for her feature story "Rush's #1 fan...Millie Limbaugh." Rachel's story was judged top feature in the nation in the Quill and Scroll Junior High division. Only eight national Sweepstakes awards were presented this year.

This was The Paw's ninth year of publication. The paper is produced by the Southeast Missourian.
