A Scott City man faces sexual assault charges for an ongoing sexual relationship with a 44-year-old woman with mental disabilities.

Dennis E. Blankenship, 59, of 1214 E. Maple St., was arrested Monday after admitting the relationship during an interview with Scott City police officer Gina Cook. In a sworn statement filed with the complaint, Cook wrote that she received a report of the relationship Sunday.

During the interview with Blankenship, he admitted having a sexual relationship lasting seven or eight years with the woman, who he knew had been diagnosed by a doctor as having the mental capacity of a 12-year-old, Cook wrote in her probable-cause affidavit.

Associate Circuit Judge Scott Horman set Blankenship's bond at $50,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the woman.
