Firefighters battled a fatal fire at a mobile home Saturday night in Scott City, and authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Emergency crews arrived around 8:30 p.m. Saturday to find the mobile home fully engulfed and learned there was a man trapped inside.

Jim D. Gray, 45, was found dead near the front door of the mobile home by firefighters.

Gray was confirmed dead by Scott County County Coroner Scott Amick.

Firefighters worked for more than an hour stripping away the charred remnants of the foundation to remove the victim.

Amick said sometimes it is difficult to determine a point of origin in fires such as this.

Fire chief Jay Cassout said the fire marshal's office has been contacted to investigate.

Authorities planned to begin the investigation immediately, he said.
