BENTON, Mo. -- Routine police work resulted in several arrests in Scott County over the weekend on drug charges, according to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter.

The arrests started Saturday night with a traffic stop that became an arrest for an outstanding warrant, and then a possession of controlled substance violation. Then on Sunday, two meth labs were seized.

Walter made a traffic stop near Diehlstadt, Mo., on Saturday night, finding an outstanding Charleston, Mo., warrant for the driver, Nathan C. Davis. Davis, 32, of Uniontown, Mo., also had marijuana and heroin, Walter reported. Davis was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and a traffic charge of speeding. His bond was set by the court at $15,000 cash or surety, which he posted.

On Sunday, Chaffee, Mo., police and Scott County investigators responding to a complaint of a strange smell at a 514 W. Parker Ave. in Chaffee, discovered a shake-and-bake meth lab -- a method in which the ingredients are combined in a plastic bottle and shaken to mix them -- and recently manufactured methamphetamine.

Jennifer Maddox, 27, of 108 W. Martha Drive, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, with bond was set at $10,000; Rickey Childers, 26, of 514 W. Parker Ave., was charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, with bond set at $75,000. Maddox and Childers are in the Scott County Jail.

That incident led to an investigation of another suspect, who lives in Oran. Oran police assisted in the investigation, which led to two more arrests for people whose names are being withheld until warrants are issued.
