A sales tax election scheduled for Tuesday in Scott County has been cancelled due to the ice storm that has cut power to thousands of people across the region. The election was scheduled for voters to consider a half-cent sales tax that would fund law enforcement, E911 operations and county government expenses.

Scott County Clerk Rita Milam said the election will be rescheduled for Feb. 17. There were no other issues on the ballot in any other jurisdiction in the county.

If voters approve the tax, it will raise about $1.6 million annually and would be accompanied by a property tax cut that would save county residents about $400,000 a year.
