ST. LOUIS -- A St. Louis-area butcher shop has agreed to pay $50,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by the state of Missouri over allegations that the shop sold products labeled as "ground beef" that contained cattle hearts.

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced the settlement Tuesday with John's Butcher Shoppee. The shop also agreed to submit to unannounced inspections by the Missouri Department of Agriculture.

Koster filed suit in 2011. The settlement covers the company's stores in Overland and Festus, as well as other businesses operated by the family that owns the shops.
