SIKESTON, Mo. -- Sarah and Ty Ferrell stand next to a circular saw, ready to film a scene for their do-it-yourself reality TV show. The director offers a few suggestions, steps away, and cameras begin to roll.
Filming of a television pilot featuring the couple, along with Ty Ferrell's mother, Frannie, was underway last week.
While many of the details remain under wraps until the program airs, the production works to blend the three Ferrells' talents. The Ferrells, who operate Ferrell Excavation, are involved in demolishing buildings and sometimes salvage pieces to reuse in other projects.
Sarah Ferrell, who works as a home interior stylist, is the one who envisions the new purpose for many of the old pieces.
Now the trio hopes to put what they do best in front of a television audience.
Early last week, more than a dozen members of a Los Angeles film crew arrived and production began as the Ferrells and their construction team redid a kitchen and dining area of a house in Sikeston.
On Wednesday, Sarah Ferrell was drawing her plans for the hom's kitchen while Ty Ferrell moved between painting window frames and cutting the wood that will be repurposed on the interior.
"I'm worn out, but it is very rewarding," said Frannie Ferrell, pausing from painting furniture.
"It is a crazy, crazy experience," said Sarah Ferrell, who added she likes that the family is able to work together on the project and the production.
The couple fall into an easy banter as the cameras roll. As Sarah Ferrell talks about the design she wants her husband to create, he grins and teases her.
The director calls for another scene. Then the camera crew films additional angles.
Many of the scenes Wednesday were being filmed outside as the windchill dipped below freezing.
Calling it an incredible experience to work with the television production crew, Sarah Ferrell added she is learning a lot.
"I'm trying to roll with the flow, to not stress out and to have a good time," she said.
The show, if picked up, will air in 2015.
