A Sikeston, Mo., man is under arrest after allegedly stealing a firearm, checkbook, money and other items from vehicles across the region Sunday, according to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff's Department.

Chadwick Hopgood, 18, is charged with felony stealing of a firearm and misdemeanor stealing after reports were investigated of items stolen from vehicles in Morley, Oran and Chaffee early Sunday, the release said.

The investigation led to finding Hopgood in possession of some of the stolen items. He also was observed on camera cashing in stolen lottery tickets at a convenience store, according to the release.

Deputy Matt Scroggins interviewed Hopgood, and he confessed, the release said.

Hopgood is in custody at the Scott County Jail with a cash or surety bond of $7,500.
