SIKESTON, Mo. -- A man is in custody in connection with a shooting that left three injured.

At 11:56 p.m. Friday, an officer on routine patrol reported hearing gunshots from the 100 block of Luther Street and found a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

The victim was transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center. Two other shooting victims were taken to the hospital by private vehicle, according to Sikeston Department of Public Safety director Drew Juden.

The suspect in the shooting was located by deputies with the Scott County Sheriff's Department during a traffic stop on U.S. 61 between Sikeston and Haywood City. The man, whose name was not being released by officials, is expected to be charged by Scott County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Boyd with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

The gun believed to have been used in the shooting has not been recovered yet, authorities said.

Juden said the three shooting victims are expected to make a full recovery. One victim, who was shot in the leg, was treated and released from the hospital while the other two were kept in the intensive care unit for observation.

"We don't know at this point what the motive for the shooting was," Juden said.
