Ten students participating in the Southeast Missouri Music Academy under the auspices of the music department at Southeast Missouri State University have received special honors for their accomplishments during the fall semester.

Three academy students were named to the All-District Choir. They are Adam Cox of Chaffee, Dina Dempsey-Santos of Cape Girardeau, and Sarah Jones of Jackson. Jones also was named to the All-State Choir.

Named to the all-district and all-state orchestras was Bryn McDougall, a cellist from Cape Girardeau.

In addition, three students received top ratings in the Missouri Music Teachers Association District Piano Competition. They are Adam Bryant, Carol Jackson and Diana Weaver, all of Cape Girardeau. Weaver also placed third in the 10th grade level of the Missouri Music Teachers Association State Piano Competition.

Also receiving honors were three academy students who were named to the All-District Band. They are flutist Blaine Oxley of Cape Girardeau and clarinetists Kara Whitledge and Sara Wunderlich, both of Jackson.

The students honored this semester have studied under academy director Becky Fulgham and academy instructors Chris Goeke, Todd Ponder, Lori Shaffer, Sherrie Troxel and Alicia Wappel.

The Southeast Missouri Music Academy, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to enriching the lives of students by stimulating a lifelong appreciation of music. The academy guides the development of basic musical and performing skills.
