The Southeast Missourian is seeking nominations for its annual Spirit of America Award.

The award goes to the person who exemplifies the character and community service that helps shape America. Last year's winner was Jane Randol Jackson, who was instrumental in developing the Red House Interpretive Center in downtown Cape Girardeau.

Civic clubs and other organizations such as sports leagues and school groups can nominate someone for the award. The organization that nominates the winner will receive a $1,000 donation from the Southeast Missourian.

The Southeast Missourian has sponsored the Spirit of America Award since 2003. To nominate an individual, visit http://semissourian.com/forms/spirit or look inside the newspaper for entry forms to mail in.

The deadline for nominations is June 19.
