Cabbies sue Uber, cite dip in business

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis-area taxi drivers suing Uber allege they've seen up to a 40 percent dip in business since the ride service began operating in violation of local regulations. Drivers Robert Glynn of Laclede Cab, Douglas Uchendi of ABC Cab and Aaron Vilcek and Jeffrey Hamilton of St. Louis County Cab filed the suit Friday in St. Louis County. The suit stated the plaintiffs' individual damages are less than $75,000 each. The damages sought in a class-action case would be less than $5 million. An Uber spokeswoman said the company hasn't seen the suit and declined to comment Monday.

Senator closes office after death threat

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Statehouse office of Republican state Sen. Kurt Schaefer is closed until further notice because of a death threat the lawmaker said he received by telephone last weekend. The Columbia attorney said the threat against him on his Statehouse office telephone's voicemail is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and capitol police. The caller said in the message "Christianity is dying in this country," and many would like to see Schaefer hanged from a tree. Schaefer said he doesn't know what prompted the threat, but he's taking it seriously. A sign remained on Schaefer's locked office door Tuesday, attributing the closure to "unforeseen circumstances."
