A motorist on Cape Rock Drive splashed over the swollen Walker Branch that runs through Dennis Scivally Park during heavy rain Tuesday. Tuesday's storms toppled a few trees, flooded short stretches of roadway and knocked out power briefly, according to police and fire department officials. In Cape Girardeau, trees blew down in the 300 block of North Main Street and on Timon Way, just north of Big Bend Road. In Scott City, the 900 block of Fifth Street lost power briefly. In Scott County, water rose over Route A, between New Hamburg and Chaffee, but quickly abated. Cape Girardeau picked up 1.76 inches of rain.

At about 1 p.m. Tuesday, a tornado touched down in Stoddard County, damaging a house. No one was injured. Read more
