Ann Ostendorf, a senior at Notre Dame High School, has been named the school's Sylvan Scholar as winner of the Century III Leaders competition.

The 17-year-old student is now eligible to compete with Sylvan Scholars from around the state for one of two $1,000 college scholarships and an all-expense-paid trip to the National Century III Leaders Conference next spring in Baltimore.

State delegates will compete for the national winner's prize, a $10,000 scholarship.

This is the 18th year of the Century III Leaders program, which annually awards a total of $142,000 in scholarships to student leaders. Century III is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and Sylvan Learning Centers.

Ostendorf is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Ostendorf of Cape Girardeau.
