The Shawnee District Friends of Scouting this week kicked off its 1993 fund-raising campaign.

Greg Deimund, Shawnee District Friends of Scouting chairman, said the goal of this year's campaign is $25,000. Eighty percent of that will be used to provide service directly to the Tiger Cub, Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Exploring programs.

Ten teams from various Cape Girardeau businesses were on hand for the Thursday kickoff at Drury Lodge. They will help secure funds for the Scouting program in this district.

Any business or individual not contacted who wishes to make a pledge or contribution should contact the Southeast Missouri Boy Scout office at 3000 Gordonville Road, or call 335-3346.

The Shawnee District is the largest of three districts in the Southeast Missouri Council, serving more than 2,000 youth and about 550 adult volunteers. Shawnee District serves all or part of five Southeast Missouri counties which includes Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City, Perryville, and their surrounding areas.
