1. The Muse

I joke about my husband being the muse for the most toxic marriage in the world because if I'd been married to a less secure man, it wouldn't have gotten written. He said to me over and over, 'Write it, don't censor yourself, don't think about the outside world and we'll figure out the rest later.' He was very responsible for this awful book about marriage! 2. On bringing it to the big screen

It's great to collaborate when people are so talented. I'm just thrilled that the movie is getting made so quickly...and this author Gillian Flynn, who is so talented, is having so much of her work produced now.

3. Rolling out the Red Carpet

We tried to extend a great amount of graciousness to the filmmakers, and they have returned that 110 percent,"

4. On Location in Cape Girardeau

We are shooting here more days than we planned on because it's working so well.

5. On the reluctant cast member

This is the honest-to-God's truth. If I had known who David Fincher was, and his body of work...If I had known that the book was so popular, and so many people loved it...Had I known all those things, I would have said no. And my agent knew that! So he didn't tell me any of those things! Not until after I had signed on to do it.

6. On Ben Affleck playing the part

You cast movies based on critical scenes. In Gone Girl there's a smile the guy has to give when the local press asks him to stand next to a poster of his missing wife.

7. On preparing for the role

Also, we were shooting in this small town in Missouri, Cape Girardeau, which has a small ... college that Andie goes to in the film. I visited a few times, imagined her family, what her life has been like, and why [Nick] is so appealing to her.

8. Becoming Amy Dunne

She reveals a lot about the female experience, both positive and negative. It's why people are shocked by her, seduced by her.

9. Preview of the film

It's a much darker film than I was expecting. The book is not exactly uplifting or happy, but it's a nasty film.

10. How it all ends

"This is a whole new third act! She literally threw that third act out and started from scratch."

11. On David Fincher's plans for a new ending

"Greatly exaggerated."

12. Gone Girl, in a Nutshell

"They disliked me, then they liked me. They hated me, and now they love me."
