The trial of a Cape Girardeau man accused of causing the death of his 7-week-old son in August remains on schedule after a pretrial hearing Monday before Circuit Court Judge Benjamin F. Lewis.

Jury selection for Allen Walker Jr.'s trial will begin in Benton, Mo., March 29 and proceedings will begin in Jackson at the Cape Girardeau County courthouse March 30.

Walker, charged with second-degree murder and child endangerment, allegedly abused his infant son, causing his death. According to court documents, doctors in Cape Girardeau and St. Louis discovered skull fractures, bruising on the child's face, and rib fractures that were already healing at the time of the child's death. In an interview with police, Walker said a playpen fell on top of the infant while he was taking care of him on Aug. 22.

He is still in custody at the Cape Girardeau County Jail.
