Otahki Girl Scout Council, Inc. and Southeast Missouri State University were recently awarded grants to develop environmental education projects.
These were among 29 grants that were awarded in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska through Region 7 of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Kansas City, Kan.
Otahki Girl Scout Council, Inc. received $3,750 to provide materials and plans to expand the environmental knowledge of 2,700 Girl Scouts. Southeast Missouri State University received $4,275 to produce a workshop for kindergarten through 12th grade teachers on waster management education.
These grants are designed to encourage development of a wide array of environmental education and training initiatives under the National Environmental Education Act, said William Rice, acting regional administrator.
"This is the second year these grants have been available and we're very proud of the quality of the projects submitted for consideration in Region 7," said Rice.
