FRUITLAND -- Two people were hospitalized Friday night from injuries in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 two miles south of Fruitland. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Kelly Reuther, 20, of St. Charles was driving a 1995 Ford Bronco north on I-55 when she lost control of the vehicle. FRUITLAND -- Two people were hospitalized Friday night from injuries in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 two miles south of Fruitland.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Kelly Reuther, 20, of St. Charles was driving a 1995 Ford Bronco north on I-55 when she lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes, striking a 1984 Oldsmobile driven by James Shawley, 45, of Auxvasse.

Reuther's vehicle overturned and came to rest on an embankment. Shawley's vehicle continued on and then overturned several times, police said.

Reuther and Shawley were taken to St. Francis Medical Center where Reuther was listed in serious, but stable condition, on Saturday. Shawley was listed in fair condition.

Shawn Zier, 24, of St. Peters, a passenger in Reuther's vehicle, and Mary Shawley, 46, of Auxvasse, a passenger in the Shawley vehicle, were treated at hospital and released.
