Two undocumented immigrants accused of falsifying paperwork to gain employment at a Cape Girardeau restaurant pleaded guilty to charges of misdemeanor identity theft and were ordered to pay a $500 fine plus court costs during a hearing Monday at the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse.

Tereso Salinas, 30, and Francisca Salinas-Carmona, 30, were arrested June 23 by Cape Girardeau police and charged with forgery. The charges were later amended to misdemeanor identity theft by the prosecuting attorney.

Salinas and Salinas-Carmona were working at El Torero at 2120 William St. at the time of their arrests, but both were employed at El Acapulco at 202 S. Mount Auburn Road when the falsifying of documents occurred.

According to a previous statement by police spokesman Darin Hickey, each of them used an invalid visa or Social Security card.
