POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- An unattended package is responsible for a bomb scare.

Police Capt. David Sutton said there was a report Tuesday afternoon of a suspicious package left at the base of a railroad trestle. Responding officers found a backpack.

A robot from the Southeast Missouri Regional Bomb Team removed the backpack and rendered it safe with a water cannon. It was found to contain clothing and personal effects.

The owner of the backpack has not been identified.
