NEW MADRID, Mo. -- The Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office, New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are continuing an investigation into the incident that occurred at the Fourth of July celebration in New Madrid.

Bill Poley, 40, of Marston, Mo., was helping light fireworks July 4 when a mortar struck him, New Madrid police chief Claude McFerren said July 5. Poley, a New Madrid Fire Department volunteer, was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident that occurred about five minutes after the show began.

Investigators are asking the public for any photographs or video shot of the fireworks display before, during or after the incident.

Anyone with information, videos or photographs is asked to contact the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department at 573-748-2516 or Fire Safety at 800-392-7766.
