SCOTT CITY -- The number of polling places in Scott City has been reduced from three to two and ward lines in the city have been redrawn to even out the number of voters in each ward.

Scott County Clerk Bob Kielhofner said new voter registration cards were mailed this week to Scott City voters advising them of the changes.

He said about 80 percent of registered voters will be affected by either the elimination of one polling place or the redrawing of district lines.

Voters in Wards 1 and 2 will vote in Precinct 1, at the Broadway United Methodist Church, 1400 Broadway. Voters in Wards 3 and 4 will vote in Precinct 2, at City Hall, 618 Main Street.

The Masonic Lodge on East Second Street was eliminated as a third polling place.

"We're sending everyone a new voter ID card and a letter explaining this," Kielhofner said.

The redrawing of city ward lines was approved by the Scott City Council in November. It was done so there would be a more uniform number of voters in each ward. The number of voters in each redrawn ward are: Ward 1, 732; Ward 2, 657; Ward 3, 700; and Ward 4, 642.

The next city election is a primary on Feb. 4. It will be held in Ward 2 only, with voting taking place at United Methodist Church from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voters in the primary will choose two candidates for a two-year term in Ward 2 on the city council. Incumbent John Rogers and Terry Gettings and George Moit will be on the ballot.

Kielhofner said if there are any problems with the new voter identification cards they should be returned with a correct address to the county clerk's office as soon as possible.

Candidates in the April election for four other seats on the council are LaDonna Phelps in Ward 1; Edith Davidson and Kenny Holder for a one-year term in Ward 2; Ron Oller and Joe Bles for a two-year term in Ward 3; and Terry Johnston in Ward 4.

Candidates for mayor are Larry Forhan and Rodney Holloway.
