The Cape Girardeau County prosecuting attorney charged a Cape Girardeau woman with robbery after police said she pushed a Wal-Mart employee to get out of the store after a theft.

Cape Girardeau police arrested Stephanie Lynn Farrar, 23, on Friday.

Her charges include second-degree robbery for forcibly stealing a quantity of merchandise owned by Wal-Mart, according to the arrest warrant, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Second-degree robbery is a class B felony that carries a minimum prison sentence of five years if Farrar were convicted. Farrar’s bond was set at $20,000 cash or surety.

Cape Girardeau police officer Eric Steiner pulled over a 2013 Dodge Challenger about 3 p.m. Friday on Minnesota Avenue, and Farrar was a passenger in the car, according to a probable-cause statement filed by Steiner.

A Wal-Mart associate told police she tried to stop Farrar from leaving the store after seeing Farrar had concealed items on her person and t had passed all sales points, Steiner wrote.

Farrar “extended open hands in a shoving motion, causing the associate to be pushed out of the vestibule,” Steiner wrote.

In a search of the vehicle, Steiner undergarments and cosmetics from Wal-Mart, according to the statement.

In the vehicle’s center console, Steiner wrote he found hydrocodone and alprazolam pills.
