KENNETT, Mo. -- A young woman was found slain in her Kennett home over the weekend.

The victim is Caroletta K. Hamilton, 24, originally from Caruthersville, Missouri, according to a news release from the Kennett Police Department.

Police discovered the homicide while conducting a wellness check at the residence in the 900 block of Floyd Courts. Hamilton's family had contacted police because she had not been heard from in several days.

A suspect was in custody at the Dunklin County Jail. Because the person had not been formally charged, no name was released, but the news release specified the suspect is a man from Homestown, Missouri, a village of 150 people in northern Pemiscot County.

Detectives arrested the suspect after interviewing several witnesses.

Investigating agencies included Kennett police, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and sheriff's deputies from Dunklin County and Pemiscot County. Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call Kennett Police Capt. Tim Trowbridge at (573) 888-4622.
