Allen Laws Oliver Jr. of Dallas, Texas, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005, five days after his 90th birthday.

He was born May 23, 1915, in Cape Girardeau, son of Allen Laws Oliver of Cape Girardeau and his wife Olivia Leachman Oliver, formerly of Virginia.

Allen received a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri and a master's in business administration from Harvard Business School.

He was an investment banker/broker with Merrill Lynch, then Sanders and Co., and finally Oliver Investments. Allen was an active member of Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas. He was a member of the New York Stock Exchange and president of the National Security Traders Association.

Allen was a founding member of Northwood Country Club and belonged to Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Terpsichorean Club and Idlewild Club. He was president of the Highland Park Community League and board chairman of Camp Grady Spruce, which he actively supported for many years.

He loved to play the piano and often entertained his friends in this manner. In 1936 Allen was a drummer in a band on a cruise line to pay his fare to Europe. Allen was an avid golfer.

Allen is survived by his wife of 17 years, Caroline Reid Lyne Oliver; her three daughters, Roberta Lyne Kristovitch, Rosalie Lyne Sandlin and Anne Dillon Lyne; his daughter, Margaret "Monty" Strother Bourland Garretson of Berkeley, Calif.; her four daughters, Laura Boyette Bourland Riley and husband Michael Harold Riley and their sons, Jack Bourland Riley and Luke Gough Riley; Julia Hillen Bourland Chambers and husband Lawrence Augustus Chambers and their daughter Penelope Blu Chambers; Darcy Margaret Garretson and Dorothy Boyhill Garretson.

He is also survived by his daughter, Olivia "Pedie" Leachman Oliver Bramblett and husband George Walter Bramblett Jr. and their three children, Faerol Leachman Bramblett Wiedman and husband John Clifford Wiedman and their sons John Bramblett Wiedman and David McNeely Wiedman, George Walter Bramblett III and wife Ashley Fick Bramblett and Graham Laws Bramblett. Allen is also survived by a niece, Penny Oliver Chapell; a nephew, Jack Oliver; and cousins, Don Oliver and Col. Bill Oliver.

Allen was preceded in death by his son, Allen Laws Oliver III.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas.
