Alma Mae Abernathy, 81, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at her home.
She was born Sept. 17, 1935, in Oriole to Robert E. and Lela A. Singleton Abernathy.
Alma was a dedicated and active member of Iona Baptist Church. She served as Sunday-school secretary for more than 60 years. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Loving survivors include 18 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers, Glenn, Carl, Tom, Cline, Kenneth, Norman "Buck," Elmer and Lloyd Abernathy; and sisters, Betty Abernathy and Grace Craft.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Allan Fletchall officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
