MARBLE Hill, Mo. -- Charles M. James, 98, of Marble Hill passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, at the Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Feb. 2, 1917, in Bollinger County, Missouri, son of Aaron Moses and Marganie Limbaugh James. He and Bonnie Jean Goad were united in marriage April 26, 1941.

Charles was an Army veteran who served during World War II, a retired steelworker, always had a garden, loved fried green tomatoes and was an Elder, song leader and teacher in the Church of Christ. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Marble Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include his sons, Don M. James of Burbank, Illinois, Bruce D. James of Palestine, Texas, and Timothy James of Edgar, Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons Lanny R. James and Charles C. James; brothers Arthur, Jess, Wayne, Ray and Bill James; and sisters Nadie and Mary.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until time of service Monday at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Bruce James officiating. Burial will be in Cook Cemetery at Scopus, Missouri.
