Charles R. Kamp, 71, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Monticello House in Jackson.
He was born April 12, 1936, at Tilsit, son of Albert and Nora (Bodenstein) Kamp, Sr. He and Darlene Wiedbusch were married Sept. 15, 1957, in Chicago, Ill.
Charles was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. He attended St. Paul Lutheran grade school in Jackson and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was a 1954 graduate of Jackson High School and served 16 years in the 1140th National Guard.
In his early career, he worked for his brother at the former Kamp Sales and Service in Jackson. He then owned and operated a Snap-On Tools Dealership. In 1971, he became employed at Kasten Masonry, retiring in 1997 as plant manager at Kasten Concrete Products in Cape Girardeau.
Charles was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he formerly served as president of the congregation, served on the treasurer committee, ushered for more than 40 years and was active in the Men's Club.
Charles was also an active member and former president of Jackson Optimist Club, with a 38-year perfect attendance record.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Darlene of Jackson; two sons, Kerry (Pamela) Kamp, their children, Kory and Kacey of Jackson and Kent (Sherry) Kamp, their children, Kendall and Kaila of Farmington; a daughter, Kia (John) Zieba, their children, Kensley and Kaitlyn of Madisonville, Ky.; three brothers, Earl (Jessie) Kamp of Jackson, Albert (Dena) Kamp Jr. of Burfordville, and Elmer (Martha) Kamp of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elsie (Kamp) Shafer.
Friends may call Thursday, Dec. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and Friday, Dec. 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson from 9:30 a.m. until the service begins.
Funeral service will be Friday, Dec. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating.
Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
