MCCLURE, Ill. -- Chester H. Smithey, 83, of McClure, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1992, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 22, 1908 in Ullin, Ill., son of Joseph and Stella Durham Smithey.
He married Brooksie Keller on June 6, 1931 at Jonesboro, Ill. She preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 1990.
He was a laborer and construction worker and a member of the Reynoldsville Baptist Church.
Survivors are one son, Lee Smithey, Burbank, Ill.; two daughters, Judie Welker, Cape Girardeau and Doris Phillips, Blue Springs; two brothers, Robert Stanley Smithey, McClure and Joseph Smithey, Jonesboro; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Three brothers, one sister and two grandsons preceded him in death.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ford & Sons Sprigg Street Chapel. Service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the chapel. The Rev. Bill Burke will officiate. Burial will be at the Jonesboro City Cemetery.
