SIKESTON -- Elmer Clement Beal, 75, of Sikeston died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Bertrand Retirement Home following an extended illness.
He was born in Sikeston Dec. 20, 1923, son of the late James and Henrietta Bryant Beal. On Dec. 18, 1943, he married Guynell Glover in San Diego, Calif. She died June 28, 1994.
He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a banking professional, having served the Sikeston banking industry in a leadership role for more than 30 years. He was employed by the First National Bank and later by the Bank of Sikeston at the time of his retirement.
He was the 1962 Sikeston Man of the Year and was a past Boy Scoutmaster and member of many civic organizations. He had served extended terms on both the Sikeston Board of Education and the board of directors of the Missouri Delta Medical Center.
Survivors include a son, Ken Beal of Sikeston; a brother, Leroy Beal of Annondale, Va.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Nathaniel Pyron officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
