MOUNDS, Ill. -- Clifton R. Palmer, 79, of Mounds, died Thursday, July 15, 1993, on arrival at Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born Feb. 18, 1914, at Mounds, son of Roy and Ethel Helman Palmer. MOUNDS, Ill. -- Clifton R. Palmer, 79, of Mounds, died Thursday, July 15, 1993, on arrival at Union County Hospital in Anna.

He was born Feb. 18, 1914, at Mounds, son of Roy and Ethel Helman Palmer. He married the former LaVerne Tucker.

Palmer was a switchman 30 years with Illinois Central Railroad. He was a member of the Congregational Church here, and United Trainmen Union.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Jones of Henderson, Ky., Betty Foreman of Waltonville; two brothers, Gerald Palmer of Anna, James Palmer of Charleston, Ill.; five sisters, Daisy Calhoun of Norman, Okla., Mermie Reeves of Pulaski, Marjorie Rives, Lelia Palmer and Evva Tuffley of Mounds, and five grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Chapel in Villa Ridge. The Rev. Tom Ellison will officiate, with burial in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Saturday.
