Dana "Chief" Melbourne, 58, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Tamms, Ill., died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 28, 1953, in Poplar, Mont., to Alfred and Cleo Speakswalking Melbourne. He married Jeanette Storm, who preceded him in death May 29, 2012.

Dana was Native American. He was a member of the Fort Peck Tribes, Assiniboine and Sioux, of Poplar.

He is survived by a stepdaughter, Margarette Pyron of Cape Girardeau; three stepsons, Douglas (Donna) Imparato of Indiana, Michael (Rita) Imparato of Cape Girardeau, Jamie Lee (Mandy) Imparato of Tamms; his mother, Cleo Geier of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Alfred (Nina) Melbourne Jr. of Sacramento; three half sisters, Brenda Vasguez, Valerie Southall, Sandra Steven-Baker, all of Sacramento; 16 grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Melbourne Sr.; a grandchild, Michael Joseph Pyron Jr.; grandparents, Helen Arnell and David Arnell; and a special niece, Helen Cisneros.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating. He will be laid to rest with his wife at Rosehill Cemetery in Thebes, Ill., at a later date.
