Dr. Daniel Preston McNair Jr., 78, of Daphne, Ala., died Saturday, March 28, 2009, after a lengthy illness.

A native of Ozark, Ala., he was the son of Dr. Daniel P. and Margaret Eason McNair Sr.

McNair is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Kolb McNair of Daphne; two daughters, Anna McNair of Sante Fe, N.M., Marian McNair (Charles) Ketcham of Monrovia, Calif.; a sister, Margaret (The Honorable Hugh) Brunson of Crowley, La.; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Angus McNair.

McNair was a retired professor of health and physical education with 34 years of teaching and coaching wrestling and soccer. He was at Southeast Missouri State University 23 years, retiring in 1992. He was inducted into the Auburn Tiger Trail in 2002, one of two NCAA Wrestling Champions in UA Wrestling history.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. April 17 at Chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, 27409 U.S. Highway 98, Daphne, Ala.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

Memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
