Daniel Henry Prigge, 69, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at his home, after a brave battle with cancer.

He was born July 7, 1947, in Defiance, Missouri, son of Albert and Esther Teckemier Prigge. He and Betty Latamondeer were married May 30, 1994, in Schluersburg, Missouri.

After graduating for Francis Howell High School, he attended Central Missouri State (CMS) for undergraduate studies before joining the U.S. Army for a two-year hitch as sergeant in the military police during the Vietnam War. Upon completion of his military service, he attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale for graduate studies and later became a social-science instructor at East Central College in Union, Missouri, for 17 years. In the latter years of his career, he spent 10 years as a community developer in Southern Illinois.

Dan always had a story to tell, a big laugh, and a huge heart, full of empathy, compassion and understanding. He will be forever missed by all who know him.

Loving survivors include his wife, Betty, of 23 years; a daughter, Tara Maybach (Chris) of Occidental, California; a twin sister, Nancy Harlen of Roy, Utah; a sister, Alvyne Rethemeyer (Karl) of St. Charles, Missouri; and a granddaughter, Muriel Maybach; as well as extended family and many great friends whose lives he touched

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Unitarian Universalist Church, 200 Broadway in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Southeast Hospice.
