HIGHLAND, Ill. -- David G. Shea, 44, a native of Cape Girardeau and a former Scott County prosecuting attorney, died April 24, 1993, at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland.

He was born in Cape Girardeau on Sept. 21, 1948, to Gordon Shy and Mabel Grasser Shy. He grew up in Sikeston.

He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Missouri at Columbia, and a law degree in 1974.

He married Paula Zoe Heisserer on Nov. 27, 1975, in Chaffee.

He was a prosecuting attorney in Scott County for four years in the late 1970s under the name David Shy, then practiced law in Scott City before moving to St. Louis in the mid-1980s.

He changed his name from Shy to Shea.

He practiced law and began working for Illini Federal Savings and Loan in Fairview Heights, Ill. He and his family moved to Highland in 1987.

At the time of his death, he was a mortgage banker in Chesterfield, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Heisserer of Highland; his parents, Gordon and Mabel Shy of Chaffee; one son, Benjamin Shea of Highland; two daughters, Sara Shea and Rebeka Shea, both of Highland; one brother, John Shy of Washington, Mo.; and four sisters, Cheryl Young of Olathe, Kansas; Carol Trost of Arnold; Mary Shy of New Madrid and Gail Thomas of O'Fallon, Ill.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland with the Rev. Keith A. Karau officiating.
