ZALMA, Mo. -- David Eugene Hovis, 91, of Zalma died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at his son's house in Hiram, Mo. He was born June 23, 1919, in Hiram, son of Thomas and Myrtle Hedge Hovis. He married Anna Alice Pridy Dec. 23, 1940. She passed away April 17, 2008...

ZALMA, Mo. -- David Eugene Hovis, 91, of Zalma died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at his son's house in Hiram, Mo.

He was born June 23, 1919, in Hiram, son of Thomas and Myrtle Hedge Hovis. He married Anna Alice Pridy Dec. 23, 1940. She passed away April 17, 2008.

Mr. Hovis was a farmer. He was affiliated with the Turkey Creek General Baptist Church.

Survivors include seven sons, Tom (Judy) and Bill (Bernia) Hovis of Hiram, Bob (Opal) and John (Janis) Hovis of Zalma, Jim (Soozi) Hovis of Sikeston, Mo., Joe Hovis of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Mike (Sandy) Hovis of Advance, Mo.; a sister, Eileen Stewart of Rector, Ark.; 23 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna; a brother, Thomas Clayton; a sister, Iretha Alexander; and a granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Mo.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Jamie Hovis and Rudy Pittman officiating. Burial will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill.
