PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- David C. Stokely, 50, of St. Louis, formerly of Perryville, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at his home in St. Louis.

He was born Aug. 25, 1962, in Perryville, son of Russell and Caralyn Gisi Stokely.

David was a longtime criminal defense attorney practicing in the St. Louis area. He was a member of the Missouri Bar Association. He was of the Catholic faith.

Stokely was a "fixture" in court, and well respected for both his legal knowledge and his encyclopedic knowledge of the goings-on in the courts buildings.

Survivors include his parents, Russell and Caralyn Stokely of Perryville; one sister, Brenda Davis of Perryville; one niece, Natalie McMillan of Perryville; two nephews, Austin Davis and Chase Davis, both of Perryville; and two great-nephews, Connor McMillan and Cooper McMillan, both of Perryville.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Milton Ryan, CM, officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School Endowment Fund.
