Dennis W. Mize, 63, of Jackson passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center. He was born Sept. 1, 1953, in Cape Girardeau to Billy and Ethel (Criddle) Mize. Dennis W. Mize, 63, of Jackson passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 1, 1953, in Cape Girardeau to Billy and Ethel (Criddle) Mize.

He and Karla Sanders were married July 17, 1976, in Cape Girardeau.

Dennis was a 1971 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. He was a towboat captain for 38 years and worked for Western Kentucky Navigation and Dravo Mechling Corp.

He was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. Dennis was a member of Maple United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Loving survivors include his mother, Ethel Mize of Jackson; wife of 40 years, Karla Mize of Jackson; three children, Paul Michael Mize, Brandon James Mize and Marla Elizabeth Mize, all of Jackson; brothers, Micheal Mize (Debra Dalton) of Marble Hill, Missouri, and James "Kevin" (Carol) Mize of Cape Girardeau; and nieces and nephews, Wesley Sample, Micahley Rosier, Eric Sanders, Nicole Tyler, Nathaniel Sanders, Elizabeth Sanders, Travis Lee, Timothy Mize and Michelle Prado.

He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Mize.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bryan Schaefer officiating.

Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Maple United Methodist Church or Bethel Assembly of God.
