Donald Fredrick Atchison, 61, of Pontiac, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at St. John's Regional Health Center. Donald Fredrick Atchison, 61, of Pontiac, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at St. John's Regional Health Center.

He was born Nov. 6, 1936, in Cape Girardeau, son of Fred Lee and Pearl Henrietta Martin Atchison.

Atchison was a 1954 graduate of Central High School and lettered in football. He attended Southeast Missouri State University and played on its football team.

He was a welder and crew foreman with Alaskan pipeline construction more than 20 years, stationed at Dead Horse Base Camp, Alaska.

Atchison was a fishing guide the past 15 years at Bull Shoals Lake. He held the Missouri state record for striped bass from 1980-88. He had resided at Pontiac since 1976.

Survivors include two sons, Pat Godwin of Cape Girardeau, Kim Godwin of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Sherri Bailey of Brentwood, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel in Springfield. A wake will follow at the lake house of Pat Godwin near Pontiac.

There is no funeral or burial.
