Doris (Bowden) Lemons, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Doris was born March 27, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Edward T. and Evelyn Lillian (Logel) Bowden. She married Robert N. Lemons on June 16, 1951, at the Grace Methodist Church...

Doris (Bowden) Lemons, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Doris was born March 27, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Edward T. and Evelyn Lillian (Logel) Bowden. She married Robert N. Lemons on June 16, 1951, at the Grace Methodist Church.

She was a 1948 graduate of Central High School and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science degree in art education. She taught K-12 art at Oak Ridge School District for 18 years and served as the yearbook adviser. Doris worked as a freelancer in photo retouching and painting for 27 years at Cape Girardeau studios including Trovillion's and Kassel's. She also worked for Charles Buck Studio at Bloomfield, Missouri. She was a member of Maple United Methodist Church.

Doris is survived by her husband, Robert Lemons of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Robyn S. Lemons Albright-Seals (Michael) of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Justin Albright (Athena) of Cape Girardeau, Lindsay Albright VanGennip (Scott) of O'Fallon, Illinois, Katelyn Albright of St. Louis; three great-grandchildren, Grant Steven, Logan Scott and Chase Patrick VanGennip; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Private services were held as per the family's request.

Interment was at Fairmont Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Maple United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau was in charge of arrangements.
