Dr. Edward Dunne Campbell Jr., 70, of Phoenix passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, in Phoenix.

He was born Jan. 1, 1942, in St. Louis, to Dr. Edward D. and Bernadean Avis Campbell.

Campbell graduated from Central High School, went to Tulane University Medical School in New Orleans and completed orthopedic residency at the University of Texas in San Antonio.

He was staff orthopedic surgeon in the U.S. Army in Frankfurt, Germany, before joining the Arizona Institute of Bone and Joint Disorders in Phoenix. He practiced as an arthroscopic surgeon, specializing in sports medicine as well as shoulder and knee disorders.

During his career he was a member and officer of many medical organizations. He taught internationally and was involved in many charities.

Campbell was an avid world traveler, historian, skier, scuba diver and an outstanding underwater photographer. He presided over the National Association of Underwater Instructors and the International Society of Aquatic Medicine.

He is survived by three sisters, Susan C. Roper (Mickey) of Cape Girardeau, Sally Weisser of Fort Collins, Colo., Sandy Campbell of Estes Park, Colo.; five nieces; and a nephew.

His parents preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Saint Francis Foundation for the benefit of the Bernadean Avis Campbell Nursing Scholarship, 211 Saint Francis Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63703; a hospice; or a charity of your choice.
