CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Earl Leon Jenkins, 84, of Chandler returned home to the Lord on Saturday, May 14, 2016.
He was born in Advance, Missouri, on Sept. 23, 1932. He was the fourth of six children born to Freeman Helderman and Ima Jewel Devore Jenkins.
Earl was a talented athlete, excelling in basketball and baseball at Advance High School.
He married the love of his life, Patsy Carrol Sims, the day after graduation. Theirs was a long, happy marriage of 63 years. He had a successful career as a pipefitter and welder, rising to become a foreman and superintendent on gas pipeline projects in many states, including Illinois and Arizona.
He was known for his fairness, honesty and generosity, giving a hand up to many family members and friends by helping them find good-paying jobs in the industry.
He was an avid golfer, had a beautiful singing voice and loved spoiling his grandchildren.
Life revolved around family, and all were welcome in their home; the more, the merrier.
Earl is survived by his daughter, Teresa Jane Jenkins O'Brien, and son-in-law, Patrick O'Brien of Chandler; daughter-in-law, Liane Leo Jenkins; brothers, Lemond H. and Russell L. Jenkins of Springfield, Missouri; a sister, Carolyn Jenkins Visek of St. Charles, Missouri; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patsy Carrol Sims Jenkins; sons, Robert Earl Nathan and Christopher Lynn Jenkins; his mother and father; a brother, Alison William Jenkins; and a sister, Wilda Dean Colyer.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
