CHARLESTON -- Ed Starks, 82, of Charleston, died Monday, Aug. 12, 1996, at his home. He was born June 3, 1914, in Inverness, Miss., son of Pleas and Lillie Harris Starks. CHARLESTON -- Ed Starks, 82, of Charleston, died Monday, Aug. 12, 1996, at his home.

He was born June 3, 1914, in Inverness, Miss., son of Pleas and Lillie Harris Starks. He and Ethel Jones were married Aug. 16, 1963.

Starks served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; four stepsons, Richard and Adolph Jones of Grand Rapids, Mich., Donald Jones of Dayton, Ohio, Sylvester Jones of Buffalo, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Evangeline Mitchell of Country Club Hills, Ill.; two brothers, Joe and Freddie Starks of Charleston; two sisters, Arlean Hall and Leola Cathron of Charleston; 33 stepgrandchildren, and numerous great-stepgrandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.L. Posey officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill.

Friends may call at the church Saturday from noon to service time.

Sparks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
