SIKESTON -- Edward D. Cooney, 68, of Sikeston, died Thursday, June 9, 1994, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Centralia, Ill., son of James G. and Bess R. Doyle Cooney. He and Mary Olson Cooney were married Aug. 5, 1961, in Chicago, Ill.

Cooney was a zone manager for International Harvester Co. 20 years. He purchased the International Harvester Farm and Truck Dealership at Sikeston in 1967, renamed it Cooney Equipment Co. and owned and operated it until retiring in 1991.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Jeanette Allen, Ann Bloemer and Marilyn Klueppel of Sikeston, Sharon Cooney of the home; a sister, Kay Munie of Belleville, Ill., and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-9 p.m. today.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Church, with Msgr. William Stanton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery here.
