Edward "Ed" Joseph Fluchel Jr., 78, of Cape Girardeau passed away at 11:37 a.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at his home. He was born Dec. 29, 1942, in St. Louis to Edward J. and Leona Preis Fluchel Sr. Just before turning 21, Ed became the happy husband of Juliann Byrnes on Nov. 30, 1963. Edward "Ed" Joseph Fluchel Jr., 78, of Cape Girardeau passed away at 11:37 a.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at his home.

He was born Dec. 29, 1942, in St. Louis to Edward J. and Leona Preis Fluchel Sr. Just before turning 21, Ed became the happy husband of Juliann Byrnes on Nov. 30, 1963. They enjoyed the company of one another for many years.

He worked for McDonnell Douglas, an American aerospace manufacturing corporation, as a machinist and maintenance man.

Ed loved the outdoors and God, shaping him into an avid hunter and fisherman, as well as a reliable volunteer at the local food pantry and a familiar face at St. Mary's Cathedral. His dedication to church also resulted in his membership as a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Juliann Byrnes of Cape Girardeau; sons, Joseph (Julie) Edward Fluchel of Marble Hill, Missouri; Robert (Becky) Paul Fluchel of Glennon, Missouri; and Phillip (Jerie) Bryan Fluchel of Whitewater; daughter, Brenda (Kevin) Marie Zimmerman of Jackson; grandchildren, Aly, Loren, Eric, Natalie, David, Lyndsey and Kassie Fluchel, Brandi Crader, Zachary and Kodey Zimmerman; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Leona Fluchel, and brother, James Fluchel.

Inurnment at St. Mary's Cemetery is to be scheduled.
