SIKESTON, Mo. -- Edward Heckert, 76, of Sikeston died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital in Ste. Genevieve, Mo.

He was born July 22, 1925, in Bertrand, Mo., son of Lawrence Doyle and Cecil Meeks Heckert. He and Pauline Parr were married Aug. 31, 1946.

He had lived in Bertrand most of his life, moving to Sikeston in 1978. He was a landowner and retired farmer in Scott and Mississippi counties, a member of the Trinity Gospel Church of Sikeston since 1974 and had conducted Sunday church services at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as an infantry rifleman in northern France and the Ardennes. He was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant and was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, three overseas service bars and the Victory Ribbon.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jack Heckert of Cape Girardeau and Joey Heckert of Sikeston; a daughter, Jill Heckert of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, William Heckert and Lawrence Heckert, both of Bertrand; a sister, Bertha Sweet of Sikeston; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Monday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
