ULLIN, Ill. -- Elma Chandler Smith, 81, of Ullin, Ill., died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at City Care Center in Anna.
She was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Wheeling, W. Va., daughter of Daniel and Creasie Amos Starcher. She married Oscar Chandler, who preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1975. She later married Herbert Smith, who preceded her in death in Jan. 1989.
Smith worked as a seamstress in a factory. She was a member of Elco Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Stanley E. Chandler of Murphysboro, Ill., and Dennis Chandler of Ullin; two daughters, Susie Adams of Ullin and Judy Zeschke of Anna; one sister, Helen Wheeler of Barberton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
Friends may call at the Elco Baptist Church from 12 to 2 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the church. The Rev. Roy Buddy Walls will officiate, with burial in the Murphysboro Cemetery.
Crain Funeral Home in Ullin is in charge of arrangements.
